Hi, I'm Katie. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I always had a dream to one day become a counselor and therefore pursued this in 2001. I received my Masters in Counseling from the University of Missouri St. Louis. I also studied at Covenant Seminary for additional perspective. Having education from both secular and faith based institutions has allowed me to incorporate psychology (traditional mental health) into my primary focus which is the Bible itself and how it fits into one's faith journey.
Having worked as a Special Educator and a General Education teacher, I have experience in working with children and adolescents having General Emotional Disturbances, ADD, Sensory Integration Disorders, Learning Disabilities, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Autism to name a few. I have worked with youth and families experiencing the challenges that surround these issues for the past 11 years.
I am currently pursuing my LPC license and hope to expand my expertise to include custody, adoption, marriage and family, anxiety disorders, EMDR therapy, as well as play therapy. I also enjoy facilitating group therapy.
I approach counseling with the perspective that all growth is spiritual growth rooted in the relationship we have with Jesus Christ Himself. I believe growth is about God's sanctification. Life, circumstances, emotions, thinking and spiritual growth are shaped by the Truths in God's Word. I can appreciate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with Rogerian Therapy and incorporate that as well.
In my free time I enjoy reading, biking, spending time with family and friends, cooking, writing, calligraphy, and being a part of my church.
I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your journey and all that God has planned for you!
